Summertime in the Smokies
What a great time of year! We're only a few days into Summer and we're already feeling it! When the calendar creeps toward July, you can rest assured that things are going to heat up in East Tennessee.

With that changing of the months, we also know that a celebration is right ahead. We're talking about the FOURTH OF JULY! Every year we take a day to celebrate our nation's Independence and there are sure to be some celebrations around us this year.

If you want to be one of the first people in the United States to celebrate the Fourth of July, then head to Gatlinburg late Tuesday night. This year, the city will put on it's 37th Annual Fourth of July Midnight Parade. Every year at the stroke of midnight, the group of patriotic paraders heads toward downtown Gatlinburg to start the celebration with more than 100,000 people!

After a safe Wednesday out and about, you're welcome back to Gatlinburg for the Fireworks Finale right downtown. The city puts on a great fireworks show that starts around 10 PM and you'll be able to see the display from nearly anywhere in downtown Gatlinburg.

If you're looking for something in Pigeon Forge, be sure to check out the 22nd Annual Patriot Festival at Patriot Park. Swing by the park for festivities that last from Noon until 10 PM on July 4th. Finish the night with live music from country star John Anderson and an unforgettable fireworks display in front of the Smoky Mountains.

Don't forget to book your luxury cabin for the week! Stay with Great Cabins! in the Smokies for the best Smoky Mountain vacation you can find. Why Do They Call It 'The Smokies'?
There are a lot of names for the mountain range that runs throughout East Tennessee: the Smokey Mountains, Smoky Mountains, the Smokeys, but most people just seem to settle on "The Smokies". No matter what name folks settle on, they are all just variations referring to the Great Smoky Mountains.

The name "Great Smoky Mountains" comes from the smoke-like fog that hangs over the mountains. While it may look like smoke from miles away, it's actually rain and evaporation from the trees below. Actually, the high peaks of the Smokies can actually see an average annual rainfall of 85 inches!

Next time you see a haze floating over the mountains, educate the person beside you and tell them how The Smokies got their name!

Want to see the mountains up close? Join over 9 million annual visitors and take a trip to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Plan your vacation around America's most visited National Park - find time to go hiking, fishing, bicycling, picnicking, and so much more! Once you're here, you'll know why so many people choose to visit East Tennessee, Western North Carolina and The Smokies.

While you're here to check out the beautiful scenery all around, make plans to stay with Great Cabins! in the Smokies. We've got luxury cabins that are just right for every budget with great locations around the Great Smoky Mountains. Give us a call at 1 (866) 409-7066 or visit us online for our 24/7 Reservations!
